More than 1,400 people attended North Bergen’s luau-themed pool party on Wednesday, Aug. 31, and they got more than their money’s worth in food, entertainment, music, theatrics, and high-octane fun. The performances began with live music & dance demonstrations and contests, followed by a huge dancing robot covered in dazzling disco lights.

That segued into a spectacular presentation of fire dancers, who mesmerized the crowd by literally sculpting with flame, wearing it as a costume and spitting massive fiery plumes. Meanwhile there were dozens of tables of food from all corners of the globe, including a pig roast and delicious desserts. In the rear of the complex stood inflatable rides and games for kids. And in the middle were the pools, decorated to the max with tropical themes.

Mayor Nicholas Sacco opened the gate and greeted attendees with gifts of Hawaiian leis, joined by the Township Commissioners, Township Administrator Janet Castro, County Commissioner Anthony Vanieri, and many other municipal officials and employees.

The phenomenal annual event is staged by the North Bergen Recreation Department, with participation from all departments, including the DPW, Parks, Police Department, schools, and many volunteers. More photos at www.northbergen.org
